Pete Zaaz

With its unusual pizzas and friendly staff, Pete Zaaz is a restaurant to root for. As our pal Howard noted, however, the pies aren't terrific: we found the crust dry, stiff, and bland. But the flavor combinations --- in particular, the baked potato (with creme fraiche, white cheddar, bacon, and green onion) and the pretzel parm (with fried chicken, smoked gouda, and garlic chip bechamel) --- are interesting enough to earn Pete Zaaz our semi-seal of approval. We don't quite heart you, not yet, but we like you enough to try you again someday. 

4heads Governors Island Art Fair

This is the last weekend to check out the creative explosion that is the 4heads Governors Island Art Fair. Abandoned barracks on the island are turned into galleries and studios where more than 100 artists are exhibiting their work. 

Melville House Bookstore

Melville House Bookstore operates out of a small storefront in Dumbo and sells books published by Melville House, which takes up most of the space and is separated from the store by a set of moveable bookcases. The store is only open when the office is, so you might overhear an important editorial or design decision being hashed out, or see an author on the way to a marketing meeting, or simply witness several silent souls hunched over Macs, headphones most definitely on, as you browse tables and stacks stocked tight with titles from The Neversink Library, Melville International Crime, and The Art of the Novella, among the several series, imprints, and standalones made here.
