Rajbhog

Papri chaat, Rajbhog

As we begin planning our trip to India in earnest, we're sampling as much food as we can. Tough life, we know. To start, a cheap feast from Rajbhog, in Jackson Heights, including papri chaat, perhaps the best version we've eaten to date, a spicy sloppy mass of textures and tastes, potatoes and chickpeas and raw onions, papri and tamarind and masala, oh my; Cheeto-colored bandara, a puffed cereal that reminded us, vaguely, of Cap'n Crunch; gulab jamun wrapped in coconut, chewy and moist; and a yummy, yummy samosa sandwich.
